Can you imagine sliding across the leather seat of a Bentley wearing a handmade suit and silk shirt? Bentley Motors of North America thinks that image might entice you to buy one of its luxury cars. Bentley recently announced a deal with a bespoke tailor, Astor & Black Custom Clothiers, to throw in a handmade suit with every car it sells.
A quick perusal of Astor & Black's website reveals an interesting parallel between the clothier and the carmaker. The clothing company, founded by a 21-year-old in 2004, already offers "packages," similar to the way options are grouped in the auto business. For example, the "Platinum Package," offering three custom-made suits (plus various shirts and silk ties) sells for $5,500. Of course, that's not even the sales tax of a new 2010 Bentley Continental GT whose base price of $182,800 would bring the sales tax to about $17,745.
