Maintenance Minder: Stinky Cars, Odor Eaters and Fresh-Scent Fuzz Busters

The overwhelming aroma of the pine trees dangling from the rearview mirror may be a thing of the past. We are entering a bold new age of auto-odor elimination. A host of new products is available to mask -- nay, eliminate -- anything from old fries under the driver's seat to ancient cigarette smoke to the unfortunate result of Old Shep's motion sickness.
The subject came to mind because our 2004 Toyota Prius long-term test car had developed a decidedly funky smell. Different sniffers described it in different ways, but one person said it smelled like hay. (I thought this was funny because he had been born and raised in the city, far from any bales or lofts.) An editor attended a Meguiar's event and got a sample bottle of its Odor Eliminator ($10.56 from Amazon), so I decided to give it a test drive.
