Study Suggests a New Way of Looking at the Time We Waste in Traffic

As commuters sit in their daily traffic jam, they might wonder what could improve their commute. Is it more lanes? More highways? According to a recent report from an organization called CEOs for Cities, the answer may have more to do with how the U.S. builds its cities than how it builds its roads.


The report, "Driven Apart," puts the blame for worsening traffic on suburban sprawl and contends that compact development, which puts destinations closer to people, will result in less time spent in traffic and less need to spend money on highway development.
